New York, New York - On Thursday, September 14, 2006, HSBC African Heritage Diversity Committee presented the "The Art of Networking with Keynote and Guest Speaker George C. Fraser, Chairman & CEO, Frasernet, Inc. Welcome remarks were presented by Tony Murphy, CEO, HSBC Securities (USA) Inc., and Introductions by Michele Chow-Tai, VP and Business Manager Structured Equity Linked Products HSBC Bank USA, N.A. (Event Chair).

Tony Murphy, CEO, HSBC Securities (USA) Inc. shared new diversity INITIATIVES in which HSBC has embarked upon, and noted that diversity is America's strength. Live music was provided by "Hypnotic Brass Ensemble".

George C. Fraser spoke about the importance of education, developing marketable skills, and relationship building. He also emphasized the importance of living life with purpose, and stated that the purpose of life is to love, give, serve, and add value to others. Mr. Fraser encouraged African Americans to leverage their collective resources and intellectual capital.

Power Networking Series goes uptown to Pier 2110

The Power Networking Series presented its 4th networking event of the year at Pier2110 (126th St., & 7th Ave.) in Harlem on August 14, 2006. The Power Networking Series goes uptown to Harlem Series is a rapidly gaining momentum.

It is the goal of the Power Networking Series to create an economic infrastructure built on high trust and frequent networking events in the Harlem area. Hempstead, NY - 4TH Annual Harlem Book Fair on Long Island Sept. 30, 06

Hempstead, New York - The 4th Annual Harlem Book Fair on Long Island will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2006, at Kennedy Park, 335 Greenwich Street, in Hempstead, New York. Housed in a huge tent on the park grounds, the book fair will be a “rain or shine” family event. The book fair will open at noon on Saturday and will close at 6:00 p.m.

This community event is designed to promote literacy and literary endeavor on Long Island. It is also an opportunity for authors to encourage our youth and dialogue with the community. Nationally acclaimed author, Donna Hill, will be among the many noted African American and Hispanic authors available for book-signing. There will also be panel discussions, readings, workshops, “open mike” sessions, multi-cultural music and dance, and a variety of merchandise and food vendors. For the young people, a Children’s Pavilion is set-aside for children’s book authors, readings, a face painter, storytellers and other fun activities. Admission to the book fair is free.

The Harlem Book Fair, established in 1999 by Max Rodriguez, publisher of QBR The Black Book Review, has been held annually, in Harlem. Due to the Book Fair’s success and Mr. Rodriguez’s continued efforts to bridge the literary world and urban communities, the Book Fair has established venues across the country. The first Harlem Book Fair on Long Island debuted in 2003, in suburban Freeport, NY. San Diego, CA debuted in 2004, followed by Roxbury, MA and Buffalo, NY, in 2005. Hartford, CT debuts September 23, 2006, and the year 2007 will herald the first Harlem Book Fair in Canada.

The hosts of the Harlem Book Fair on Long Island are: The African Atlantic Genealogical Society, QBR the Black Book Review, the African American Museum and the Village of Hempstead; with the support of Verizon and Astoria Federal Savings. Other organizations on the Planning Committee are the Coordinating Agency for Spanish Americans (CASA), Nassau Literacy and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
